have you looked into making one just to try it out? that way if you dont like it you havnt spent near as much.. plus its customized if you make it.

Step one.....do not buy from LP!

Step two....if you do buy a slate, look for something with multiple pages that you can attach to your wrist or for a "wetnotes" style little book with waterproof pages. Those fancy magnetic ones are nothing but PIA and only look good on the shelf.

Fisher Price "Doodle Pro" magna doodle, $6.00 Wal-mart, works great under water.

I agree...cheap but works well. When I was looking I asked my LDS about them and they suggested the magna doodle...at Walmart...heh heh...I love my LDS:D

I've tried both of those pictured and don't like either. The one on the left falls apart underwater (talk about a PITA)... first the yellow cover slips off and tries to float away, and then the white plastic binding rings snap away one by one from the bottom and top since without a cover (which you will have quickly ditched), there isn't much to protect them from snagging on stuff, and finally, the pages are too thin--they just stick together so you have trouble finding your deco schedule, or they flap around in the current. The one on the right doesn't have any of those drawbacks, but does have to strap onto my left hand in order to write on it (I'm right handed), and that's where my dive computer is. Too much stuff on the arm for other things to get entangled with.

I have ended up with one called "Anura Amphibious Notebook" http://www.ecounlimited.com/EU-001.htm which has multiple plastic pages like the Dive wRites, but is sturdier, plus it fits into the cumberbund unlike the wrist-mount one.

Nevertheless, next time I'm in the US I'll pick up one of those F-P cheapos to try out. Sounds perfect for rec dives.

Same idea, different approach. There are other wetnotes style booklets o nthe market, but could not find any decent shots of any.

As for the wrist mount.....just move your computer further up your arm or below the slate on your wrist.....they work good.

How much testing have you done on this product?

Why not LP... they have a good selection and great prices.

I used the Magnadoodle that Jay was telling you about all last year, in fresh as well as salt, and to depths of 75-80 feet. Worked great, and like he said, it's cheap.
