Hi guys,

I'm looking for some more dive sites around Huntsville. I have already been told about a couple of wall dives at Lake Rosseau and Skeleton Lake, but would like some other suggestions as well. Also, are there any places around Huntsville/Burkes Falls, to get air fills, without driving to Gravenhurst?

Thanks,
Jim

According to the OUC directory, there's nothing up there.....

I am personally not aware of any "dive sites" aroud there but that means very little. If you are in the area, what is stopping you from just picking a lake and jumping in? Sometimes when you have dove everywhere, that is all that is left. I would try talking to people in Gravenhurst (ScubaShack) or Peterborough (several shops) and ask them if they know of any. Up there you likely just have people that have dove in their lake or a friends lake and had fun. There will likely be very few "dive sites" (but I have been wrong a couple times before :D). How far are you from Nippising?

I'm not very close to Nippising at all. I have tried a couple of lakes in that area, they have all been about 12 feet deep, most have been REALLY murky and not really much fun. I have heard of those two wall dives (over 100 feet max depth) and was hoping for some more options. I might just have to keep trying lakes up there until I find something worth while.

I dove off a cottage dock on Muldrew Lake (near Bracebridge) and it was the darkest dive I have ever been on. It was a real test of buddy skills, situational awarenesss and comfort in the water but I wiould never recommend it as a site. I have a feeling that because of the geological make up of that area (lots of rock, tannic water and leafy run-off, many lakes will be the same. I did a shallow dive in Drag Lake near Haliburton and while it was clear enough where I was, it barren of everything and shallow. I am lucky to be able to enjoy any dive no matter how boring......my suggestion is to keep trying and if you come across any good dives, then let people know the coordinates and know you've done a great service. I would still have conversations with the "local" dive shops.....they or some of the members might know something.

Good luck.
