At Rainbow Reef (Key Largo) we always gave a "be back time". The owner & GM insisted we allow 60 minutes from the time we said "pool is open" until they were supposed to be back to the boat.

In this way we knew when divers were overdue and had a specific idea when we needed to call for help looking for lost divers.

I was never a fan of open ended be back times for this very reason.

Thanks Capt. that makes sense.

RR was pretty strict with 0:45 when we were there a few years back. Full boat and tight schedule.... Conditions also really sucked (rough enough to cancel a day of it) so everyone was on edge... Came back with a lot of air.....

Some crew decided and likely still decide to cut dive time to 45 minutes. If that happens to you it should be reported to the GM, he will admonish the crew who goes against the company policy of 60 minutes. It is an ongoing issue with some crew who are just in a hurry. When that happens tip accordingly...

That being said..if you fiddle around for 15 minutes on the boat after "Pool is Open", then your dive time will be 45 minutes.

Being back with a lot air is not a bad thing. If you have a SAC rate of say .45 cfm you will be back with lots of air. :whistling:
