I am looking to go to a bp/w setup for diving single, mainly NC/SC coast and warmer waters. I like what I hear about the Dive Rite Venture 30# and the Oxycheq Signature 30#. Any thoughts or recomendations? Thanks!

The biggest difference I can see with those two wings is the shape of the aircell. Other than that, they are very similar. Similar materials (inner bag with outer shell). The Oxycheq does have a more durable inner bladder than the DIve Rite, and the outer shell is a heavier nylon also (and coated with urethane). There are people who have both, and like them. With the Dive Rite, it has an almost square bottom, and then gets smaller at the top. The Oxycheq is a circular aircell, and you will get much better control of the air moving around in the cell with a circular wing. The square profile of the Venture may cause air to be trapped in the aircell...

Just my thoughts on the two designs.

Thanks LUBOLD8431, that makes sense. It sounds like you would tend to lean toward the Oxycheq out of the two. They sound pretty solid.

I have also checked out the Abyss wings on the internet, but can't seem to find out much more about them. I only see a little bit of discussion here on SB regarding them. Anybody have any feelings about the Abyss wings versus the Oxycheq Signature and Dive Rite Venture single wings?

Thanks again

The only problem with using a horseshoe shape wing with singles is the taco effect. Picture a taco shell with your cylinder as the filling. I have never tried the Abyss single tank wing, so I dont know how this wing actually behaves. Thats just the common problem with that design with a single cylinder. The horseshoe shape works fine with doubles, and some manufacturers just shrink them down in size, and expect that to work with a single cylinder. It doesnt work very well. I would go with a circular shaped wing designed for single cylinder use. Oxycheq, OMS, Halcyon all make these types of wings.

Doesn't the OMS single tank wing have a horseshoe bladder inside of a circular shell? Thought I read that somewhere.

I have yet to see the OMS wing up close and personal, so that might be the case. I might have heard the same thing, that it was closed off at the bottom...

I have a Venture and love it, personally I haven't found any gas trapping issues, I found the shape of the wing helped offset the placement of a weightbelt. In all honesty, you probably can't tell the difference in water, go with one with local support.

The OMS single tank wing is horseshoe, not circular, in shape.
