I'm planning on buying my first set of gear this weekend. Figured I might as well just go to the backplate set up since many recommend it in Southern California. My LDS has a package with Dive Rite's classic SS plate system or the Transplate for an additional $150. The transplate does look a lot nicer with the quick release and already included d-rings.

People who have used the transplate, how has your experience been with it? Thanks!

I have a Transplate and a Transpac. The Transpac gets used more. Just more comfortable. I do not have a traditional hogartharian rig. I have a bad shoulder and the quick releases make life much easier taking the rig off in the water. Deep Sea Supply has a Glide system that attaches to their back plate and makes the right shoulder easier to slip off.

Good luck,
Jay
