Hello all,

I'm a new diver with 12 logged dives. I'm in the market for equipment, and have been looking mainly at BC's and Reg's. I looked at the above mentioned BC, and it looks like a great product, but I want to be sure. I like back inflation, beacuse it seems a lot less intrusive when diving. I've worn it in the store and it felt really comfortable. I also like the ability to change the bladders for different purposes, which seems like a good flexibility to have, being a new diver and all.....

Any thoughts about this BC or recommendations for others?

Thank you.

This has been discussed EXTENSIVELY in the archives. I'm sure you'll get some good responses re: the Transpac as well as some other options, but make sure you do a search and read the info there as well.

Welcome to the Board!

Hello 99heritage,

First of all welcome to the great Scubaboard.

To answer your question I ditto what King Kong Matt has written. There has been a vast amount of information written ragarding the Dive Rite products.

All in all the BC in question is a very good product with great customer service and a huuuuuuuuuge following.

It comes as highly recommended. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

I totally agree!

Most of my fellow Divemaster's that I work with have the Transpac II and love it! If I hadn't spent big bucks on a Poseidon BC last year before starting to work with this group I'd probably have one by now as I have used one and love it. When I can afford to do so, I'll be purchasing one of the transpac's this year.

Cheers!

Thank you for your input. I'm buying the TP II, based on your answers and everything I've read.

Seemed like a good purchase, but I wanted make sure befor spending $485

I also dive the DR TPII.. I love it.. I have stripped mine down to just the harness and wing. I didn't need the pockets because my dry suit had one on each leg. Although I do like to stick a light in the utility/mask pocket DR makes for those dives you need a light to see in some nooks and cranny's. Now that I have a canister light I have removed the pocket.

You may need to get a custom LP inflator hose, the one that came with my TPII was WAY too long. Get the custom hose. You find it much better.

I like my Transpac. But to be honest I haven't used it in about 8 months. I've been using my Backplate and Halcyon wing instead. Took it to Aruba about a month ago. It's alot smaller to pack and I just like it better...

But the Transpac ll is a nice setup. I just think if you tried a backplate and 27lb or 36lb Halcyon wing. You'd like it better.

Try both in a pool before you buy.

What about the Scuba Pro S tek.
Does anyone thinks that it is more
comfortable than the transpac II harness?

I have one. Have dived it for 3 years (about 325 dives)
It's great for single tanks. I would highly recommend it.

For doubles I use a an aluminum backplate. Its more confortable than the two cylinders against the back, and it's more stable.

The TPII flops around too much with doubles.

My 2 cents worth

You might want to look ingo the OMS IQ Pack. I tried the Dive Rite and found it very uncomfortable. Then I tried the OMS. I LOVE IT!! And it has an alu backplate in it so if I ever decide to go full out BP/ Wing, it's there, just gotta get the webbing.
