I am looking to purchase a Dive Rite RG 3100 reg with the cold water kit. Before I make the purchase, I do the majority of my diving in water temp around 50F-40F with intentions on ice diving in the near future. I am asking if this regulator is up to this type of diving, and if it is safe to purchase this reg with the cold water kit and use it under these conditions. I don't really want to buy 2 different regs at the moment for my different diving types. I hear this reg is up to the task, I just want some opinions on this matter. Thanks!!

I dive the Dive Rite Rg3100 and the Dive Rite Hurricane in 40 to 50 deg f. water all the time without a single problem.
Many others also dive this set up in much colder waters than I do without a problem.
This reg does much better than I do at low temps, it can handle the cold, but my old bones can't.

lol Thanks for the reply JBRES1. I am debating though. I like what I see on this Dive Rite RG3100 but I'm also looking at Hollis regs. The specs and features on them sound pretty good to me also. I may go with Hollis, but I don't want to spend the cash for a reg that is so-so. Any insight on Hollis?

I'm still a newish diver, but I have taken my regs with ice kit to 48 degrees without any problems. That was in salt water of course so the freezing temp is lower than fresh water. I typically dive in waters that are around 50 degrees. The regs breaths great. I also just recently took it down to 130 feet, 52 degrees, no problems. I'm very happy with my regs.

I can't comment on Hollis, but I do know they are Oceanic's tech division.

One of the reason I decided to go with the Dive Rite regs were they they had a 2 year service interval policy and they also have all their manuals online. This is really helpful if you service your own regs or if you just need to open it up to do a little cleaning. Dive Rite also allows their parts to be sold online without any secret handshakes. While I don't service my own regs, I do appreciate those kind of policies and have opened up my 2nd stage to do a little cleaning. As far as I know Oceanic doesn't have these policies with their regs.
