I was checking one out at a store the other day and it seemed pretty awesome. Lots of rings for hanging all my crap, modular so i get it exactly the way I want it, and the bladder stays out of my way.
Any of you tech guys use one of these for "normal" diving?

A back plate and wing rig is not "tech" gear, in fact, it's the basic setup that some of us used years and years and years ago as standard diving gear.

There is absolutely no reason on God's good earth why a bp/w rig cannot, or should not be used in recreational diving.

It is not a "tech" rig ! ! ! ! It's less "tech" than a back inflate B/C with a kazillion latches, snaps, doodlie-hickies, pockets, loops, etc., etc., etc., ad infinitum . . .

OK, I guess you've figured out what my take on it is, huh?

What you're describing is of course more than just the harness. You are looking at the harness, back plate, and wing.

Turns out these things work exactly the same in 16' as they do 160'. BONUS!

LOTS of rings = bad. 5-6 rings (assuming stainless steel) is probably good. Dive Rite tends to do some things well and their BP/W is ok.

And ditto on the whole "tech" thing. I am not a tech diver and my BP/W suits me fine. And it will still suit me fine when I do more technical diving. Or even if I change to a rebreather.

bp are really universal fit what ever need you need them for and 100% custom to your need as well if i new what i know now i would have got in a bp when i got my first set up

Not all BP and Wings are "universal". Some companies choose to make them proprietary for various reasons. Some of Dive Rite's products are like this so be careful.
