I am about to purchase a tech style system. I am (recently) a master diver. Most of my diving will be non-deco single tank diving. I practice some of the DIR rig. and approach but draw the line at what works best for me and could care less about fitting in with any following. I just want some honest input. I have done a little research in tech rigs and I like the dive rite transplate. It's all steel (don't want plastic) and has a chest strap and is much more comfortable to me than the Halcyon one strap set up. I don't like the dive rite wings with the bungee or (gussett) Halcyon Eclipse is much more durable and streamlined. That said could a diver marry a Eclipse wing to a dive rite transplate harness using either a dive rite or halcyon plate? This seems like it would be perfect for me and I could get one of the halcyon double tank bladders to switch when I do dive doubles. So someone........will this work???:06:

Yep it will work. The only thing to watch is whether you need an STA (single tank adapter). Some plates and wings have slots for tank bands, some don't. Doesn't really make much difference if you use the integrated method or the STA so long as you have a way to attach your tank. I would second the notion of doing it right for you. (for the record, I dive hogarthian but not quite the dir rig)

The camband slots in DR plates don't match up with Halcyon single tank wing slots, so an STA will be necessary. If you like the different harness, you might also look at the DSS rig as it has the QR and easy adjustability. http://www.deepseasupply.com/page12.html

Diverite also makes the Venture wing, which is similar to the Eclipse (though I would prefer the Eclipse myself)

Aloha, Tim

P.S. if it helps here's a chart of various wing/plate manufacturers http://www.kidspot.org/personal/scuba/bpwing.html

Yes, it'll work. Get a single tank adapter - well worth the extra expense - they're much better and more secure than the pre-cut slots in the backplate/wing. I also like the transplate harness for rec diving. One of the great features of the BP/Wing setup is that you can make it pretty much what you want, with parts from different manufacturers.

Answ 2; Jepuskar, I like the 2" padded crotch strap. The more padded style shoulders and the chest strap keeps the shoulder straps in a more comfortable position ( for me anyway). I also like the int. weight pockets for the Dive Rite. As for the Venture, it seems to displace alot of the air high in the wing. The Eclipse is better with more even air placement which along with a slightly more aerodynamic shape, seems to make it have alot less drag. Thanks for all the input guys, I really appreciate all the help and suggestions.

I just spent the week diving the FL caves with a Halcyon backplate and DiveRite wings....worked just fine for doubles, but yes, you may need a single tank adaptor if you combine the two systems for a single tank.

Sure, use what works for you.

  • I have a halcyon backplate and wing, but hate the DIR hose routing.
  • I use a Dive Rite Drysuit, with halcyon gaiters, and a DUI hood.
  • I use a DIR bottom timer, works great sitting next to my non-DIR VR3.
  • I don't like the Scubapro regs, but love their fins.
Mixing things up is the best way to get your kit where you want it.

Yes ... I started out with a Dive Rite TransPlate system ... and eventually traded in my Rec Wing for an Oxycheq 45 ... then got a DSS 30 ... then a Halcyon Eclipse 40. They all work great on a DR backplate.

As others have said ... with anything other than the DSS wing, you'll want a single-tank adapter ...
