Thinking of staying at the Marriott (or at someplace in that general area)next Sept and am looking forward to diving. We only get to dive once a year and get in maybe 15-20 dives. As such I prefer diving with a dive master to lead the way and point out the good stuff. I also prefer shallower dives. Seems like most of the dive ops I have looked at only have a guide for the first dive. Also, prefer a company that leaves someone in the boat when the divers go down.

Is there an op you can recommend that would meet our needs? We have been diving in some pretty cool places-Bonaire, La Paz, Roatan, San Carlos, Playa Del Carmen, Belize, Turks and Caicos and BVI-but I like to stay in my comfort level.,

Hi,

On the 2-tank boat dives I did with Sunset house they usually had guides on both dives.
Give them a call and ask if its always the case.

Cheers

M.

All dive ops here put a DM in the water as a guide. Most leave a "safety up" DM on the boat during the dive. A few small dive ops (& Divers Down) do not.

NOTE that a "guide" is just that - not a buddy or a lifeguard. If you want a DM to act as your buddy, you should hire one for the purpose. Phone a day or 2 in advance and it will be arranged.

Don't need a babysitter, lifeguard or dive buddy. I have a great dive partner and we are competent divers. I focus on being safe and diving within my limits and comfort level. Different dive destinations have different ways of doing things and I was just trying to find how things work. I like to do lots of research and always try to find a great dive op that works for us.

Right, then any of the larger dive ops should work for you as they all provide guides & leave someone on the boat. Some of the smaller ones may do as well, but ask them before booking.

traciedee,

We have enjoyed diving with Neptune's and Dive Tech. Both have guides in the water on both dives. Dive Tech almost always has a stay-on-board crew member, while Neptune's sometimes has one. On the other hand, Neptune's is a smaller outfit and can perhaps work with your requests better.

Of course, there are many good ops on GCM. These are merely ones with whom I have dove and been impressed.

Have a great trip,
DS
