That's actually why I was asking. I'm already booked with Seaventures, but they sent me this:
Regret to inform you that there is no shuttle bus schedule at Tawau airport, you can look for the private van transfer at Tawau airport, if they still got space, they are willing to send you to Semporna with extra charge around RM30 - RM50.00 per person per way. For accommodation at Semporna, there is quite a lot of new budget hotel there, you can look for it at agoda.com or booking.com

Which I interpret as I need to figure out how to get to/from Tawau to Semporna where I can get the boat transfer to the rig.

You should book with Seaventures and fly into Tawau. If you inform the Seaventures main office about your expected arrival time they will arrange airport pick-up and boat transportation from Semporna harbor to the oil rig. Easy peasy
You won't want to spend more time in Semporna than is absolutely necessary!

That's odd. True, there's no a public shuttle bus but Seaventures normally arranges private van pickups. No idea why they don't offer to arrange that for you at some additional cost. Normally they also want you to check in at the Semporna Seaventures office which is at the harbor and they'll also arrange the boat transfer when you've finished the paperwork.

But regardless, you can find taxis once you've arrived at Tawau airport that will definitely bring you to Semporna. I would go to their office and talk to them in person once you get to Semporna harbor.

I wonder if this has happened to other people as well.
