Like most competitive markets it's going to depend on your area. If there is a shortage you might get paid fairly well, but if it's somewhere that dive masters grow on trees you're probably out of luck unless you have something special to offer.

Most folks that I've talked to do it for fun or for a few perks at the shop, and they're lucky if they make enough to cover the gas to the pool.

However, I'm one of the folks that believe you should make your career something you love and not just do it for the money. Think about the one thing you would do for free, and go for it.

Those who work full time in the tropics usually start somewhere between $500-$1000 per month plus tips and commissions for instructors who teach. Can add up to another $1000 per month or so. Some places pay food and housing, others don't.
Club Med pays about $500 per month i think. Plus food and housing

Liveaboards are usually the best as no where to spend money...so save more of the money due to no rent/food/alcohol costs
