My dive log book got pretty wet on a recent dive and actually made about 20 pages hard to read. This made me realize that I don't really have a back up for the logs. So I thought I would move the log book to an electronic format. That way I can make backups of the data.

I've did a search on this web site and a google. I found a couple of options out there. The two that "appeared" to be the best were Scubase and Diving Log 3.0. Although, really hard to tell about both until you use them (both have trials I believe which I will be downloading).

But wanted to get some suggestions from some of my fellow divers. What are some of the better dive log software packages out there? What do you use? What do you like about your software? What do you not like?

Has anyone been able to find a comprehensive review of the packages on the market (I couldn't)?

Here are some critical selection points for me:

  • Pleasant and easy to use interface.
  • Ability to import data from Dive Computer (presently an Aeris Atmos 2).
  • Ability to import data from a wide range of other computers (I plan to upgrade next year to a more technical dive computer).
  • Track Dive Stats (i.e., total bottom time)
  • Attach Pictures to dive (and video would be cool)
  • Handle large amount of comments. I treat my log book as a diary and tend to be wordy.
  • Well supported by the developer and user community.
  • Able to export data (i.e., HTML web page and/or other dive log software).
  • Be able to print the log pages.
  • Be able to track personal info and equipment info (i.e., last service date).
  • Able to support tech diving (i.e., multiple gases/tanks). Not critical at first, but do plan to go tech in next year or two.

I'm not to hopeful that there is a software package out there with all of these features, but hopefully there is something that hits on a lot of them.

Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks again,
Michael

hmm, i can't really answer your question, but since you're thinking about getting a new comp next year, why not wait with the backup until you have a new comp. i had a little dive incident and by chance tried out the suunto interface, but i didn't have the wires yet. i thought it was great since it gives you a lot more information. before seeing a dive doc today i went out and bought the wires yesterday and think the suunto dive log is excellent and actually supports most of your points (from what i've seen at this short time). also my doc had all the information he needed.
so personally i'd get a program that is made especially for your dive comp.
just my 2c.
