Does anyone have any suggestions for Dive Insurance? My liveaboard suggested I have it but didn't recommend any providers.

I have the DAN insurance (from the Divers Alert Network). Membership and their top policy costs about $105 (?) a year.
There is also Dive Assure, I think.
If you do a search on those names you'll find more info. (Sorry, I hate making that suggestion, but there are many threads discussing dive insurance- and I'm too lousy a typist, and halfway out the door going to a wake, to provide much info)
I'll check back when I return to see if I can add more.

One more thing: I'd definitely suggest getting some type dive insurance.
I like my DAN policy, I had to use it in 2004, and it helped.
I wouldn't dive without it.

Are you getting travel insurance for your trip down under? Ask them as they may cover diving in there policy as long as you specify it.

Cheers Joel

Another vote for DAN, inexpensive for what you get, plus they are doing tons of dive medicine research constantly and your fees help pay for that too.

ditto for checking if your normal medical insurance covers emergency evac (heli) and decompression chamber time.

it could save you a few $$.

If anybody has dive emergency treatment as part of their regular medical insurance, let me know the carrier. I've had quite a few over the years and no one has covered heli rides for diving or chamber rides.

General travel insurances or your own private medical insurace wont cover things like Scuba diving. As everyone says above DAN are the best bet as that is what they do! Also its non profit organisation.

However most of us as operators up her do offer insurances for divers just for the duration of the trip (as Joel231 pointed out) so there is no need to take out full insurance. But it costs around AUD$25 for a 3 day 2 night trip on average, so the DAN one is better value and lasts a year.

Don't dive without DAN. A $100 policy is a small price to pay, especially if you are going out of the country. Insurance saved me about $30,000 this year when I took a DCS hit.
