Hi. My husband and I are newly certified PADI divers, and we are going on our first dive vacation to St. Lucia. We would like to find out what folks have to say about dive insurance. We found this article on the web regarding the pitfalls of DAN, dating back to Jan 2006, and it made us a bit concerned about just joining up. What do you think? Any recommendations? Thanks.

Those issues have been resolved. DAN is an excellent idea for any diver. There are other's out there also, as diveassure, but DAN is the largest. A 24 hour Hotline to DUKE university medical center for diving related matters. NAUI and PADI both endorse DAN. I personally would not dive without insurance. The cost of diving related treatments are huge.

DAN is the right choice. PADI has switched all their insurance over to DAN as well. Haven't heard much about diveassure I'm sure they are fine but DAN's research component and diver assistance are unmatched.

Cheers.

While I have heard of others, I started with DAN insurance and continue to maintain a policy with them. I guess I appreciate that they have the non-profit component that supports Divers and Diving - as well as the "for-profit" insurance company.
