Ok...i'm sure this may start a debate which I apologize for but I am trying to decide between either the PADI dive school here or the NAUI school and was interested on everyones opinions on the two and if there are any huge differences. I'm not looking for a 'quick' certification class as i'm one who would rather take my time and learn properly rather than get through as fast as possible. I've been kind of leaning towards the NAUI school here but would like some feedback...thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

I'm sure many others will follow me with this exact same recommendation:

There's no major differences between the 2 organizations that a good instructor can't overcome (here come the flames ).

1) Interview the local instructors from both agencies.
2) Pick the one you like the most (not necessarily the easiest way to a c-card).
3) Sign up for that person's OW class.

'nuff said

Thanks Mike...glad to hear that there isn't a huge difference between the two.

Here's a good starting point if you're looking for an instructor: [thread=130180]Some Questions to Ask When Choosing an Instructor[/thread].

Awesome. I was looking for that link myself! You're much faster on the draw.

Totally agree about PADI versus NAUI, the instructor makes a bigger difference.
Class size matters a lot, small is good.
Your LDS can make a very difference to the size of your bank balance.
Do not let them preasure you into buying complete kit, or even a starter package. If you wear glasses or contacts with a strong prescription you may need a mask. Everything else should be supplied as part of the rental for your OW.
At this point you don't need a wet suit, a dive computer, a BC, etc. Once you are qualified and you have decided what kind of diving you want to do in the future then it is time to start thinking about equipment.
