Hey! I am heading to Samana, Dominican Republic in November. I am wondering if anyone can recommend a reputable dive company? I am newly certified and a beginner diver! Thanks :)

I haven't been, but it's one of the stops on a cruise I intend to take. Are you going on a cruise, or a multi-day vacation?

I ask because forum searching here indicated to me that Samana is not the right area of the Dominican Republic to do a quick 2 tank boat dive excursion from; the good diving is farther afield than it practical while a ship is in port (or so was my understanding).

That was a real disappointment, because I've only got one good cruise port that's dive worthy. Well, there're worse problems in Life to contend with than that...

Richard.

We stayed at the Grand Paradise Samana in Las Galeras which is closer to the dive sites than other operators in say Las Terrenas. Ask for a dive site called Cabo Cabron.

Las Galeras is a very small town on the end of the Samana Bay. You will find some small dive operators in this town and maybe still in your hotel. The problem in this area will be the weather conditions. You have Atlantic Ocean and most of the time wind and waves. Diving will be in the morning.
Cabo Cabron is one of the best sites you will find in this area. This is a big mountan underwater. Very nice, but a small adventure to go there.
Not expect to much. Las Galeras was years ago a very special place for eco turism. Now you will find empty houses along the beach and not many of tourists. But a beauty on beaches and mountans.

Here in Town of Samana directly located at the Port we have a Scuba Diving Shop with a pretty good reputation called H2O & Ozeanic Caribbean.

The owner is called Manfred Kellerman from Germany, and he speaks very good English.

You should get some very good information about diving in Samana if you contact him.

Here is the LINK to his Web Page in the Tourism Website of GO SAMANA :
