I have several 1st stage kits and in one, the inlet filter (the brass one) has some discoloration. It has dark spots on it. Is that fine or should i not use it. Its a brand new kit and therefore I presume a new filter.
If it should not be used, does anyone know where I can get just a filter for an apeks DIN.
I have an old Zeagle kit with a silver filter that looks pretty close to the Apeks one, just slightly beefier. Can it be used? I can provide the model number of the kit if that helps.

First of all you violated the cardinal sin of servicing your own regs (but I do all the time). Try looking at it under a magnifying glass to rule out chemical discoloration from the brass, maybe some water just got in the bag? If so I would use it...but then again, if the filter is corroded and I used it might allow particles less than 2.5 micron into the reg and travel deep into my alveoli where it might then enter my blood stream and circulate through my entire body!!!!! Seriously, why not get a refund on the kit? Its not worth a first stage malfunction if something from the tank ends up in there...

Are you talking about a conical filter?

If then, you can swap it pretty much if the bottom diameter is the same.
You can clean out the filter with a simple green as well if you have a UC at home. And, blow it from each direction. It isn't a micron filter, so it isn't a big deal to get rid of all moistures.

However, I am 2nd on FFMDiver's comment. Why not get an exchange or refund?
