DIR is a team-based systematic and holistic approach to diving.
"Drinking the Kool-aid" was coined with reference to when Jim Jones forced his followers at Jonestown to commit suicide by drinking poisoned Kool-aid.
In this context, it's meant to imply that those who embrace the DIR philosophy do so only because they've been brainwashed and can no longer think for themselves.
