Question: How long should the 'tag end' of my waist belt be after buckling up and should the end be cut at a 45 degree shape or just squared-off?

I don't know how long it should be, but you want to leave enough there in case you need to make adjust ments to the size of your harness at a later date. Like if you gain weight or go from a wetsuit to using a drysuit, etc. It should be cut squared and then take a lighter and burn the end a bit so it doens't fray.

OK, thanks!

I rounded the end of my belt webbing before heating it. It's easier to insert into the buckle that way.

Swipe a butter knife from the kitchen...
Pick an old one that doesn't match anything else in the drawer and your marraige will last longer...
Heat it dull red hot with a propane torch...
Cut the webbing...

~or~

Buy one of those fancy butane power soldering iron/hot knife Portasol whoobie doobies like I did and leave the butterknife in the kitchen...

Yea,
I remember that trick from my old rock climbing days when we used to have to head the nylon webbing and end of the ropes to prevent fraying!
