I just don't log dives
I've got a Hog BP2 reg that I use on my AL40. It came with an odd DIN o-ring that was somewhat mushroom shaped. I had some problems getting a good seal so I replaced it with an o-ring from the local dive shop that was from the shop bench.

This o-ring failed so I bought a trident save a dive kit ( 20 o-rings ) and installed one from it today. I charged the reg and turned off the valve. Several hours later while watching a movie I heard a hiss. The o-ring had failed.

In examining the o-ring it split down the middle where there is a seam.

Can anyone give me an idea of why I'm having such problems with freaking o-rings on this reg? Am I just getting crappy o-rings from the LDS?

Aren't there two slightly different sizes for DIN regs? Are you using the wrong one?

Check to see if there are any burrs or sharp edges left that weren't smoothed out after the initial manufacturing or that happened during assembly. It's been known to happen.

I don't know anything about the specific regulator you use, but maybe it is one of the few DIN regs that takes a 111 o-ring as opposed to the much more common 112.
As for the mushroom shape, I don't think I've ever seen an o-ring that wasn't circular in cross section. The mushroom shape (I would assume) is just from it being deformed after a period of high pressure service...

HOG and Apeks use the smaller ring. The DIN rings do tend to deform over time so they look in cross section to be lopsidedly mushroom shaped. The larger O- ring will fit, but because it's got a bigger space to squeeze through it will fail more often. I would also check the valve for buildup or damage.

Im not sure about HOG but Apeks uses their own - metric size o-ring Neither 111 nor 112 will fit properly. 111 kind of fits but you can see it is not a proper size. Last time I saw the diagram of BP2 it looked from the part numbers that the o-rings were imperial but cerich did not answer my question whether the orings are imperial and just suggested to buy a kit.
I suppose if you get a rebuild kit it would have the proper oring

It takes a 90 durometer 112 O'ring. You are most likely using a 70 durometer which is too soft. 90's are harder to find.

We will make them available to purchase shortly thru our dealers in packages of 6 orings. The 90 really is a PITA to find.
