I am getting my SLR...and would like to learn about digital photography underwater on my own...could you recommend some books about Underwater Photography?

Good luck, it is a long road.
Ever thought finding an instructor? May ease the path for you...
There is also one or two online courses, I believe.
Good luck.

I "third" Martin Edge. This coming from a rank amateur and not a pro like Mike above! Read Martin Edge's book, take tons of photos to learn the nuances of your DSLR, and then go to one of Mike's courses!!!

I'll pick up that book too but I took a course from Mike Veitch and it gave the the essentials to basic U/W photography. When I took his course in late November last year I had just received my new housing but had no idea how to set it up. After a week, I felt comfortable taking photos U/W.
I would recommend a course as well as books.
