Diffuser for D2000 Type 4

Hello,

which diffuser will I need for Canon G12 (in WP-DC34 housing) and Inon D2000 Type 4 strobe:

- INON -0.5 White Diffuser 2 (TTL/Manual) for Z-240 / D-2000 / Z-220 series OR
- INON -0.5 White Diffuser 2 (External Auto) for Z-240/D-2000/W/Wn/D-180/S OR MAYBE
- INON -0.5 Blue Diffuser 2 (TTL/Manual) for Z-240/D-2000/Z-220 Series OR
- INON -0.5 Blue Diffuser 2 (External Auto) for Z-240/D-2000/W/Wn/D-180/S

To clarify: I will be using a fiber optic cable for the strobe. So will I need the simple version or the "external auto"? Which colour is better: blue or white?

You don't NEED any diffuser for a strobe.
A diffuser will make (especially on macro photos) the flash less harsh and soften a bit the shadows and the blue diffuser will reduce the reddish color of the strobe but you can deal with that easy while correcting the white balance of the RAW file.
Diffusers also will make the beam of your strobe slightly (10°) wider but this will help only on rather narrow distances and may be helpful for CFWA (Closed Focus Wide Angle).
Diffusers are problematic in presence of plancton/suspension/murka waters as the diffuser will illuminate also this particles and create backscatter (like high beams on a car while snowing).

The Diffuser2 (External Auto) has dedicated window for the Light Adjustment Sensor and supports all available strobe modes; [External Auto], [S-TTL Auto], [TTL Auto], [Manual + TTL Auto] and [Manual] modes.

*If you mainly use [S-TTL Auto] and not using [External Auto] mode, then budget priced Diffuser 2 (TTL/Manual) would be recommended.

You can archiev a similar effect using a white baby or nylon sock over the strobe or experiment with white plastic bags. After i lost my original INON diffuser i had fun with my dremel and built a new one from a sheet of white lexan .

external auto diffuser is 2x the price for an extra hole...why not just make your own hole and save $18?

Actually, I want to know if that's all that needs to be done for the external auto. I haven't done it myself.
