I just realized that to maximize my enjoyment I can only go to one place. Are there any significant difference between the islands in Tahiti?

The Pearl Resort list the following different places, but I can't tell the differences:

MOOREA
RAIATEA
TAHA'A
BORA BORA
TIKEHAU
MANIHI
NUKU HIVA
HIVA OA

I'll be going with my wife and two kids (4 and 8) and I'm the only diver. I would like a place where you can see corals very close to the shore and from your cabana.

Thanks!

If it's a first trip stick with Moorea and Bora Bora, those are the best. We prefer Moorea as the best example of a true Polynesian island. Bora Bora is the most beautiful but' it's very touristy. It's a very amazing place and has to be the most beautiful place on the planet, although not cheap. We are in the planning stages for a trip back in the fall.

Well, that narrows it down to two. Sounds like Moorea is better than Bora Bora?

Not on your list is Rangiora or Fakarava....some of the best action I've seen.

I got my list off Pearl Resort's page. All I need is to come up with one place...which shall it be?

Depends what type of diving you want to do....The Tuamotu Island group has ripping currents....and Sharks Sharks and more Sharks plus more.......Bora Bora is mellow diving....I posted a trip report in this forum last month about Rangiroa and Fakarava.....For action....as good if not better than Palau....some of the best diving I have done.

I just reread the question, if you are the only diving and topside is more important then Moorea is the only choice. First and foremost it is the best island between beauty and culture. The Pearl Beach resort is awesome, the overwater bungaloos sit on the shore coral right at the drop off.

The diving is all boat dives outside the outer reef. Where there is mostly hard coral and big fish. Inside the outer reefs is lots of soft coral, awesome colors and great snorkeling. Do the motu snorkel tours with your family, they will love it. Also do the 4 wheel island tour.

You will love it as will your credit card company.
