I'm a Fish!
I'm about to start taking hydroxycut to help me shave off some pounds. I'm kinda worried, because there's always a strong emphasis on no drugs and alcohol when it comes to diving. could it have an effect? because it does kinda play around with your metabolism, so probably affecting the heart.

Not a doctor, here, but a few words of caution:

1. How much fat (not weight) do you want to lose? If it's a little, go to the gym and watch what you eat. Use the money you would have spent in the miracle drug to pay for a personal trainer. If you need to lose more than a few pounds, go see a real doctor.

2. I doubt that this much caffeine (guarana) can be good whether diving or not.

3. MuscleTech is known for making bogus claims. I wouldn't touch their stuff.

Have you noticed how the so called diet pills come and go? Each month, there's a new one coming out and the older ones are quietly removed from the shelves. Meanwhile, there are more and more overweight people, despite all the so-called diet food that's available.

There are three types of people with a (potential) weight problem:

1. Those with a medical conditions requiring medical supervision.

2. The rest of us just requiring exercise and a balanced regimen.

3. The suckers

My $ .2.

You are 19, think you were seriously narced recently (maybe CO2 retention, maybe panic??) and now you want to add over-the-counter diet junk to the mix?
Come on- you're a college student - does this sound smart to you?
Sorry if this sound harsh but hate to see you become any type of statistic.

yeah, well I do workout, I swim and jog. but my metabolism kinda sucks, it's like I stay the same no matter what. I don't really "watch" what I eat, mainly because I eat well, I don't like junk food and no sugar or salt at all. I was pretty much brought up that way. (tropical family) so that's not a problem. I just want to lose like 20 pounds, since according to my doc it wouldn't hurt to do that. just me being me, I'd like to lose it quickly. and it does actually work, like most pills, it's not a "wonder drug." it's no replacement for excercise and diet, that's for sure, it's just a "boost."

but really, I'm most likely not gonna take them. I realized since it's summer vacation, I should not sleep in and work out for a change. heh.

are they really caffeine pills? it doesn't seem like it, I think it's more of an appetite suppressor.

Well, you're either doing something wrong and/or it would be worst if you would stop what you're doing.

Weight is meaningless. What matters is the % of fat in your body. Muscles are heavier than fat...

There's no such thing as a diet pill. Whatever you will lose, you will gain again, and probably more. Most of those pills either act on your heart rate or your thyroid gland. Two things I wouldn't like to mess with...

Very wise.

Guarana contains a lot of caffeine. Again, if you're concerned about your weight, go see a specialist.

Hi
I'm not a physician, but a veterinarian. I do work in the biomedical research. Thus, I read a lot of stuff I would be careful with the over the counter diet pills.

I understand were your coming from. In November 2002 after my first dive and having just reevaluated everything in my life; I decided I wanted to lose the weight.

I'm older and have a very curvy figure to begin with. To make a long story short using diet and exercise, I went form 220 to 175 in about 7months. I got stuck and went to the doctor.

I think the best thing you can do is get a physical. I got a lot of information on me and how my body was working. My doctor and I came up with a plan to get the last 15# off, with the understanding that I did not want to lose the shape.

I'm taking a RX med that suppress my appetite enough that I can control portion size. My doc monitors my BP etc. Since, it is a stimulant I don't take it when I dive. My decision. Doctors just do not know enough about these drugs and diving. So the information is limited.

What I have discovered is weight lifting trims inches, I have gone from a tight squeeze into a 16 to a 10. But, I'm not the weight I thought I would be for that size. I'm very happy with me and I always believed that a women body can be health and still be round, the way I believe God meant for it to be.

GOOD LUCK with both your diving and your diet.

If your "workouts" consist solely of "jogging" and swimming, then I have a few other ideas for you to consider prior to taking overhyped EXPENSIVE supplements.

One of the keys in weightloss and working out is indeed your metabolism. One of the ways to crank-up your metabolism is to increase your muscle mass. Muscle maintenance requires more energy at rest. I'd start throwing some weights into your workout.

Second, if you are just leisurely jogging or swimming, you will not crank-up your metabolism either. The key here is high intensity intervals.

Third, you mention that you don't watch what you eat but you "eat well". I'd say that if you actually track what you eat and WHEN you eat, another pattern or two will emerge.

Lastly, you don't really understand what it is the pills do...not good, I won't take any supplement unless I understand exactly what it is going to do.

So...suggestions. I'd recommend instead of spending the money on the pills, spend the money on a three month gym membership and a few sessions with a personal trainer to get you going. Alternately, most of the big fitness magazines offer "three month" tune-up or transformation workouts complete with meal plans and workouts all completely layed-out for you. (Couple suggestions are Muscle and Fitness...go online to see their current three month program, Muscle Media also has a good one based on the book "Body for Life".)

I think that dedicating three months or 12 weeks to firing up your metabolism with food and workouts will completely change your mind about using a supplement pill.

Go for it! There are some awesome results waiting for you:)

I too have fought with my weight and have tried many different things and I have used Hydroxycut and many other stimulants over the years to figure out the things that the other posts have mentioned. hydroxycut gives you that "I'VE HAVE 20 CUPS OF COFFEE TODAY LETS GO" but without much gain. The gains you get is because you start a program and usually working out and eating better are in that program as well. Bottom line don't believe the hype and spend the money on diving instead you'll be happier for it.

Doesn't Hydroxycut have ephedrine in it? I thought that it was recently banned in the States. It was banned in Canada some time ago which made it harder to get.

I must admit I have used something similar on and off (half the recommended dosage) just for the extra energy boost. It does control your hunger as well.

EDIT: Just came back to add...

I don't reccomend going this route either MantaRey. The stuff is highly addictive, meaning you feel lathargic if you don't take it on time. Your body also adjusts to the drug so the dosage becomes less effective as you go. Hence the people who take more than is reccomended in a day which crosses over to drug abuse. There you get the knuckleheads who cause themselves permanent organ damage. Even when you take the reccomended dosage you aren't supposed to take it for extended time periods. So you have to 'cycle' it and go through the lovely crash you get the first day or two you are off it.

Nah, take everyone's advice and you'll find longer lasting results.
