I am a new to diving (checkout dives in a week) and i just came back from the LDS 1400 dollars lighter. I decided to buy my own gear since eveyone says that people who have their own gear dive more. I am happy with my purchase im just worried i went overboard. please let me know what you think of my purchase did i do good or should i have done it differently? I got:

DUI Delta Wing BC
Aqualung Legend LX regulator
Aqualung ABS Octopus
Oceanic Veo 250 Computer with compass

Thanks for your opinion in advance,

Your the only one who can answer that question. You will get 500 different answers, and you will never get the right answer.

Did you get some nice equipment - My answer is yes, but the next person could say Aqualung is the biggest piece of junk because they had one little problem.

So use it, replace it - or even better yet give it to me :D

So Happy Diving, and I hope you made the right choice for yourself ! ;)

You got some fine equipment and the price was OK... the one thing I'd really want to change is trading in the cheapie "octopus" for a real second stage.

It's kinda too late to ask for advice now anyhow isn't it ;)

Yeah you did get some nice equipment alright,

Personally, I'd have advised you to wait a while, and try diving with differenct equipment, before buying what you saw.

But have no fear! You are now the proud owner of some nice shiny dive gear :D

Not bad, but I wouldn't have spent the money on the legend lx, would have saved the couple of benny's and went with the titan lx. But great choice in Aqualung. That is what I just bought. Titan lx,LPO,Cobra/propak,Black diamond bc,DC Neo Z dry suit, Tusa sf-8 fins, misc. extras all for $2600.00. All brand new. Got too love those memorial day sales!!!

It's all good stuff, yes you could have saved a few bucks and bought lower quality but then next year you'd still have the gear while you'd have frgotten how much you paid.

You did okay. Now, complete your certification and get lots of use out of your gear!

You definitely made the right decision, Yeah it is a lot of money but now you got no reasons to not go diving. Well done and enjoys your new gear.

after making the purchase...I'm always amused by that sequence.

$2600?? WOW!

Lemme see how I'd ring up if I was starting over:

Mask (someone's) $50
Fins (Jet Fins) $65
Snorkel (one time use) $10
Weight belt $50
BP/W ("H") $495
SPG (Dive-Rite) $109
Suit (Bare/Henderson) $350
Timer (G-Shock) $60
Computer (beginner) $300
Apeks ATX40 $365

Grand Total: $1854 + tax

Of course there is no drysuit there! And probably only the mask would need to be replaced to move into some serious diving. Personally, I'd drop the computer, Try to get a suit for about $250 (just got a new Henderson 7mm/5mm farmer for $240 last week), saving about $400 off that bill.

You CAN get good gear without breaking the bank. You're probably going to enjoy your gear for years to come.
