If I understand correctly, all of Quintana Roo has now switched over to Eastern Standard Time. I was curious, did the diver operators change the departure times an hour later (eg was 8am now 9am). Or is everyone leaving at the same clock time (was 8am, still 8am) and now its just an hour closer to sunrise when we depart? If the later, isn't it kinda cool and barely getting light out at the "new" 8am?

Just got home & I was there the day they switched. Diving times stayed the same as before. If they said 8:00 AM that's what they meant. Caught a few divers off guard because they didn't get the "memo".

That meant I needed an alarm clock this trip because I live in the Eastern Time zone & wake up at 7:00 AM which translated to 6:00 AM Coz time until the change.

I arrived in Playa del Carmen on 1/31 and went diving on 2/1 (the day the time changed). The boat was booked to leave at 8:30AM, and they left at 8:30AM (in other words, the captain, crew, diveshop, and all divers, including me, reset our watches).

The time change was nice, we got an extra hour on the beach, and didn't lose it in the morning because who gets up that early when they're on vacation?

The only apparent difference was that when we booked our flights, the return flight was scheduled to leave Cancun at 1:38PM. We got a notice from United that we would be leaving at 2:38 PM It gave me an extra hour on the beach that morning.

So what happens on March 8, when most of the US goes on Daylight Savings

Quintanna Roo will remain on UTC -5 (currently EST) so when the US goes to DST nothing will happen in Cozumel, the clocks will not be adjusted, so it will then align with Central Daylight in the US time or 2 hours ahead of Oxnard time. I checked with Steve and 3P and most other OP's still go out at 8AM. This actually allows for a relaxed afternoon dive year round without worrying about it getting dark at 5PM.

It is still dark getting up. Boo hiss.....
It's always dark when I get up, was up at 3AM this morning. I look it as one less hour to wait for the boat to go out.

Right. So when I go there in May it will be the same as it ever was, same as it ever was...

I KNOW!! I am solar powered, and don't wake up naturally without the sun up. And on top of all that, it is ruddy cold first thing in the a.m. now! I need a jacket when I leave the house for my pick-up!
