Hi All great to find this site, have seen a few fellow South African on board... i am a comercial diver in the diamond diving industry and am working on an idea of starting a diving operation wereby scuba divers can come and dive there own Diamond and experience how they are recovered out the ocean. Only place in the world this can be done..good old South Africa has it all...WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE IDEA....

Welcome on :sblogo:

Welcome.

Your idea sounds interesting. But for those of us who won't be able to make it, can you tell us how diamonds are recovered from the ocean?

Hello Diamond Diver en baie welkom hier!! I think your idea is great. I will surely enjoy diving on the diamond reefs. Will I be entitled to keep my finds???

welcome aboard

Hey you are going to have to come and do it as it is the only place in the world that it can be done. Tipical day would be being fetched from your beach accomodation and then be taken to the mining vessel. You will be kitted out ready to dive and will follow a 6" pipe to the sea bed and then be shown how to pump the diamond carring gravel.(interesting process on its own) The gravel is sucked up the 6" pipe onto the vessel. Once you have finnished your dive the sorting will be done by you on the vessel using a pulsating jig system. The diamonds are then recovered from the gravel. All Gem quality stones. One may be kept by you. Totaly different diving experience.

this is a very basic overview of what one will be doing..

Hi Theunis,

Yip you can keep one of them and even better we will pollish it for you so you can give to someone special. Stones are small but gem quality. This is a unique experience and can only be done on the west coast of South africa. Am busy setting up a web page and will send out details later

Thanks for your reply. I'm looking forward to the details. The diamond recovery operations at sea seems to be exciting and very profitable.

We had a neighbor who owned a dredge boat (I'm not sure if you call it a dredge boat) operating from Port Nolloth many years ago...he became a multi millionaire. In retrospect I think I should have became a commercial diver then when I had the opportunity.
