I asked this on another forum (or thread?) and want to thank Steve for his reply. Yes, I hear you on the overkill in the Bahamas. But it's after around 200 spear fishing dives in turbid soup in HK that I even thought to ask about this. We hunt in dark rocky holes with bright lights, and sometimes viz is no more than 3 or 4 feet--maybe 10 feet on a good day. After dashing around from rock to rock for 45 minutes, I am sometimes as lost as can be. The compass gives me general orientation in this case, but currents and hunting distractions sometimes leave me clueless and farther from the boat than I would like to be upon surfacing. I have been reluctant to go this route, largely because my local friends almost always know where the boat is, which tells me that my navigation skills are not so good (or they are playing some trick on me). In any case, I'm still waivering... Thanks again...
