Hi ,
We are a group of students, working on this project, which we are required to develop (or enhance, conserve, promote) interesting aspects of Singapore's landscapes..
My group has decided to work on Pulau Hantu, southern island of Singapore, which is a rather popular dive site. We accidentally came across this forum, and we are hoping that your inputs would provide us some valuable insights... (especially on the impacts on environment/coral reefs )
A brief overview of our proposal is as followed:
- our objective is to promote this forgotten landscape , to boost tourism and for Singaporeans to get away from the city life to enjoy nature
- our development of the pulau Hantu should be in line with conservation of the environment and nature
- focus is to make Pulau hantu a"central" island for visitors to island hop around the neighbouring Southern islands due to its strategic location etc..
- create various types of accomodations include tree houses, kelongs and floating house/houseboats in Pulau hantu
-build one or two beach cafes
Questions:
1) What views do you have regarding the development of Pulau Hantu as briefly described above?
2) What are the possible adverse effects on the environment if we develop Pulau Hantu as described above? How can we minimize the destruction of the environment?
3) To what extent will the construction of the tree houses/kelongs etc affect the ecology?
feel free to email me !!
Thank you ,
Mindy
