How often do you plan on diving? Locally? What kind of tanks? What is cost of fills vs cost of tank rental, etc.

As to whether a guy with DIN regs should buy DIN or yoke valves... why don't you just think about that one a little bit, and see if anything comes to you on that one.

How often do you think you will dive?

I will guess for you 30 times a year.

Cost of AL 80 ready for nitrox guess 200.
Nitrox fill 7 bucks = 210
VIP 15 bucks
First year 425 bucks
2nd year 225
Every 5 hydro

Rent nitrox tank 15 bucks = 450 per year.

First year break even future years save money.

Adjust the number of dives and see. Also if you want steel adjust costs.

There Is also the flexibility of having your own full tanks and just decide spur of the moment decide to go dive. Can't price that.

Other is how far to nearest dive shop for fills or rentals. In Tampa I assume not far.

Well the only reason i asked about DIN vs Yoke was because most of the tanks my local shop sells/rent are Yoke and i "think" he mentioned that DINS are harder to find. Also i have used Yoke tanks on all my previous dives i know the logical answer is DIN but but im sure my tanks will outlast my regulator and its probably easy to replace my 1st stage than multiple tanks.. Not sure if that makes sense =)

The minimum will probably be once a month, with 2 tanks that would be 24 fills... Im sure there would be weeks with more dives so i guess around 36 would be a good start point at least now that hook into it... Locally yes ill be diving around tampa most of the times... What kind of tank? I know steel but not sure if ill do 108 or 120

I thought most tanks now come with convertible valves. You take an Alan wrench and convert the tank from yoke to din. Maybe not rentals... If you want steel that might not be some thing your shop rents.

Personally I like din more. They feel more secure( just an opinion) You can always transform din into yoke with an insert. That doesn't go the other way around.

Good to know, so i guess for now ill buy DIN so it would match my reg.... If i decide to buy... how about LP vs HP?

It's really nice to have your own tanks, especially if you want a bigger tank or steel tanks. You can also get used tanks for a good price a lot of times. My friend got a 120 steel for less than $100 on Craig's List that just needed hydro and vis.
If I had it to do over, I'd probably go with LP because you can always get a nice good fill if you have the + rating. With my HP tank, I rarely even get a full fill because my LDS can't get their compressor over 3,000 which means my 80 tank is usually only filled with about 65 cu ft. Which really stinks! The good thing is that my tank is short and fits my spine. But, most people hate the characteristics of HP tanks and call them lawn darts. Because they are short and fat.
