I can get a great deal on a Deep Outdoors Ballistic bladder. This will be my first doubles set up.

I think the "patened internal compression system" might equate to "bungee wings of death" but since they are internal, they may not pose the increased drag that seems to be the main concern. What about the concern about increased difficulty orally inflating the wings?

Anyone have any opinions/advice on this bladder? Is it DIR compliant?

Deep Outdoors Ballistic bladder. Is it DIR compliant?

I am looking at the picture on the Deep Outdoors website:

http://www.deepoutdoors.com/ballistic.htm

It appears that the Ballistic does not have a lower left pull dump valve. If that really is the case then it is not DIR compliant.

Not sure what the Deep Outdoors "patented internal compression system" is...

Some more concerns re "bondage wings" include possible uneven inflation resulting in trim difficulties and "potential exacerbation of small punctures [in the wing bladder] as a result of the bungee squeezing air from the [wing]."

You need to be able to dump from the bottom of the bladder since you should always be in a horizontal position. If there is no bottom dump I wouldnt buy it. You'll be constantly going vertical to dump air.
Your instructor will not like :)

I dive their Black Fusion and it has one but the picture does not appear to show it.

I dive the Deep Outdoors 55# doubles wing, and it has a dump valve on the lower left side.

Lamont - the www site isn't great, I admit that. But they have really top notch stuff...

Here's some pics of my wing with the dump valve - I opened up the zipper to show you there's no internal bungees or anything.

Also noticed I had some nasty old-texas lakewater stains in there. Probably not going to hurt me, although I should probably run a mild detergent solution through there...

I thought that internal bladders in general were a no-no from a DIR perspective. I had a diverite venture wing and just didn't like it (internal bladder). I now have one dive on my halcyon pioneer and like it a lot more comparitivly.

Hey Chris,
Those Eclipses we used for Fundies were internal bladder wings. I am not as careful as some people and prefer the extra protection of these types of wings.

Yea, I don't know if it's still a big deal or not. I thought I read something about it, but half of the stuff on the GUE site is late-90's anyway, and I can't even guaratee that's where I read it. My DR wings are internal bladders, but I just switched to the pioneer. How many wings do I actually need? :)

Not so ... the Halcyon Eclipse wings are internal bladder, as are the Rangers and the new Evolves. Most DIR divers I know use wings with an internal bladder and protective external shell.
