I have narrowed my search down but now I am trying to decide on the A610 or A620. There is about $100 difference in price with the only difference being 5 vs. 7.1 mp. I need help, what are others thoughts on this? Is 2.1 mp really worth the extra $$?

Thanks!!

Jpomerantz is right; it depends on weather you plan to do any enlarging/cropping/editing or not.

From a printing standpoint, if you do not plan to print anything larger than a 5X7 the extra 2.1 mp will not make any difference at all [You will start to see a loss of quality in an 8X10 +]

With the 2.1 mp difference aside, there are a few other [very minor] differences.
The 620 has a slightly higher MaxRes [2592x1944(610) vs 3072x2304(620?] I think!
Hmm, only other difference I can think of at the moment is the fps on continuous. Continuous drive on the 610 is 2.4 fps I believe, while the 620 is 1.9.
Last differece is with included memory, 16mb(610)vs 32mb(620) Hooooweevver you’ll need far, far more in terms of memory anyhow so it really shouldn’t influence the decision.

If you think you'll be doing any significant amount editing, enlarging or printing, you might find the 620 worth your while! btw, great camera :)

Great points that you've made Kaitlyn, one thing that i'd like to dispute though.

With my A610 i've made prints at 8x10 size and they look great to my eye, haven't tried to print at 11x14 but I figure that will look pretty good also.

If you do a lot of cropping or enlarging then the extra 2.1MP would make a difference.
Anyway i'd recommend the A620 just for the extra leeway that more pixels give you..

Continuous drive speed is roughly the same at equal resolution. The speeds given assume maximum resolution and since the res on the 620 is higher, there's more to write, thus the speed is a bit slower.

610 and 620 take the same housing.

Ikelite now make a housing for these cameras that can take an external lense.

The extra resolution of the A620 can come in handy if you need to crop a photo. Ive got an A620 and now ive finally got the hang of its manual modes am very happy with it.

Buy the A610. Then take the money you saved not buying the A620 and buy the Ikelite housing for it - it fits both the A620 and A610. Although you can get the Canon housingfor $164 and you'll pay at least $350 for the Ikelite housing, I loathe the Canon o-ring design.
Others love it and will tell you to buy the Canon housing. Good luck.

FWIW Ikelite housing on their site is $400usd and the tray $55usd.

As per usual with the crazy prices for everything, the same case for me in the UK will cost roughly $500.

Thats near twice what the camera cost.
