I will be in Singapore in late December for work. I have one morning free, a Sunday. Is it worth it to try to dive? Any suggestions? or should I just blow it off and find something else like?

Thanks,
Jerry

There is Pulau Hantu just off the south of Singapore, which is accessible by dive shop boats. I didn't check it out as I was heading to Sipadan, but apparently visibility can be unpredictable.

It's pretty hit and miss at hantu. It depends how much you like the possibility of searching for stuff in really bad vis. Not everyone's cup of tea, but it has it's moments and I had a couple of fun dives there

Thanks for the info. i dive in Southern California, so vis issues are non-issues for me. Would you recommend any particular dive shops?

Check if MV Diverace or MV The Ark is going there on that date. Living Seas is a good dive shop to use if they are going.

The western reef can be pretty amazing on a good day. Current there tends to be less strong too. Vis can range from 8 - 10m to 1/2m.

Its worth experiencing.

The tiger tail seahorses are cool too

It may be difficult to find a shop that can get you back before noon but it could be worth a try. G-S Diving also runs weekend trips there. Viz is actually normally quite predicable. If it's more than 3m, be very pleasantly surprised. 1-2m is normal but up to 8m is possible. That said, there are still cool things to find there. With a decent briefing, you and a buddy should be able to find the tigertail seahorses and several nice nudi species including the lovely swimming Bornella anguilla. In my few divers there, I have also found green turtles, squid, giant groupers, crabs of all sizes. This is the best source for finding out what is there: Hantu Blog | Pulau Hantu | Singapore Marine Conservation Effort .

thanks for the advice. It looks like g-s has a 1/2 day trip the afternoon of the 21st and the morning of the 22nd which might work. I have sent them an email. It would be nice to get back to the HMS Repulse, but to do a couple of nice recreational dives before I return home would be great as well.

Thanks for all of the advice. I just came back from two dives at Hantu with G-S Diving. Gary puts on a good trip. Vis was less than 1M. Jelly's were attacking by stealth. The coral was surprisingly good and I saw a krate close up and personal…fortunately I saw him first. A much better way to spend an afternoon than going to Sentosa, vis, jellies and all.

Glad u had a good time. Jealous you saw a krait there haha. There's hydroids all over, that might be what stung you. Things are nasty
