That is very sad. Ignorance and stupidity seem to prevail in this case. At the least they could have eaten them and then it would not have been a total waste.

There seems to be some conflicting information at this point. I'm guessing that if the teeth were removed, so would be the jaws? Then how could you tell if the jaw had been cracked? Guess we'll just have to wait and see where this story goes. I'm hoping these items don't end up as souvenirs on a shelf in some roadside tourist trap gift shop.

Souvenirs is usually what happens to them. Shark meat, depending on the species, has a short shelf life and spoils quickly if not processed immediately. Looking that these were dumped in a rural area, the people who caught them knew they were poaching and more than likely knew the fines involved if caught. It's just another sad day for such an incredible creature!

Fighting the good fight!

If you look at the video clip with the OP original story link. It appears that the entire jaw has been removed from the sharks. So they will proably end up on a wall somewhere.

Not sure if its what they mean by "cracking the jaws". But that is also what some people call it when we remove the jaws from deer carcasses to judge the age by tooth wear.

I never noticed that video in original story. (link wasn't that prominant).

anyway... here is the video if anyone else wants a direct link Videos | ajc.com

it appears that the entire jaws were torn out maybe... (but doesn't really show close up pics either).

Man this sucks. Another reason to dislike anyone who wears a sharks tooth on a necklace.
