The Cayman is not native to this area. According to thefreedictionary.com, the caiman is technically not an alligator, but shares many of its traits.
Sounds like a lonely Caiman that someone released after they tired of it as a pet. Happens all too much. An apparently native gator was captured in nearby San Antonio this week: Upscale gator rousted from Dominion - San Antonio Express-News
