I have been using an oceanic Datamax Pro Plus computer for the last 4 years. The main thing that I do not like (other than the hose-but I cannot afford a hoseless model right now) is that the compass is really hard to use. I can do it, but it is a pain.

Also, it is not all that much bigger than a plain spg. So I can maybe use the Datamax Pro Plus as a back up computer if I get a wrist mount computer and start doing the tech diving I plan to do.

Can I take the compass off the top of the computer and some how mount it to my wrist? The wrist would make it WAY easier to use.

Here is what the computer looks like: http://www.cdnn.info/recall/oceanic_990913/oceanic_990913.html

My computer is not one in the recall list, but this is the best picture I could find fast.

Or should I just buy a wrist mount computer and save the effort?

Thanks!

And HOLY CRUD it is $75!!!!! That is pretty outlandish!

Any other ideas?
You want just the console; that $75 price includes the compass. Go see/call an Oceanic dealer and ask for the console w/o a compass module!

DivingCRNA,

I used to have my compass mounted on my Datamax Pro Plus but removed it because my crappy old man vision wouldn't allow me to use it effectively.

I purchased a Suunto SK-7 compass and put it on a retractor. I couldn't be more satisfied with the results.

Larry at Scuba Toys has a wrist boot for a compass for $15.

They sell Oceanic Datamax ProPlus so they should be able to fix you up. Suggest you give em a call.

Will do. thanks.

I ordered the wrist boot from Scubatoys today. They were very helpful on the phone.
