I'll be going to Belize in October for our 20th anniversary. I brought my wife (a non-diver) with me to the Scuba show in SoCal a few weeks ago so that I could see dive locations and she could find a location that suited her needs as well, so we chose Hamanasi.

I will probably dive for 3 days in Belize (may try for four) and will be staying in Dangriga. Is anyone familiar with the diving out there? I am assuming that at least one of the dive trips will be out to the blue hole. Is anyone familiar with the dive operators out there? Will I be going to the blue hole every day? Is there any shore diving in that area? Any information would be a great help so I know better what to expect!

I saw some other postings about 30 to 45 minutes boat rides to the dive sites. I guess that considering I am from SoCal and it is usally a 2 hour boat ride to Catalina, 45 minutes seems pretty short! So where does the Hamansi dive boats go?

Hi Gary

First off Hamanasi is great David and Dana run a top knotch place.

Hamanasi is located close to a small village called Hopkins, it is about 8 miles or so south of the town of Dangriga Town where you will fly into.

If you are staying at Hamanasi you will be diving with there in house dive operation Hamanasi Diving.

The Blue Hole is not a normal days diving for Hamanasi it would be a specialist trip that may or may not depart depending on demand it also usually requires an additional fee due to the extra distance involved.

There is no shore diving near Hamanasi and Belize in general does not offer shore diving, the reef is about 30 minutes or so boat ride out from Hamanasi.

Hamanasi dives a lot in the South Water Caye Marine reserve and do offer all offshore Atoll trips but at an additional rate.

Hope this helps

What Gaz said.
It's not a bad ride out because there are some cayes closer to shore and you ride out in the lee of those, pass them and are almost to Southwater. Nice area and lots of spots to dive.
