I am pleased to announce that applications are open for the 2018 DAN Research Internship program. The program has been running successfully for two decades and many former interns have gone on to achieve great things.
Applicants do not need to be very experienced divers, even a new diver can apply, and diving isn't an official part of the internship although, we are DAN, so there is usually diving on the weekends if the interns want to come along. During the working week the DAN Research Department work on a variety of interesting projects from analyzing hospital admissions data, conducting a survey, designing safety interventions, testing equipment, writing articles for Alert Diver or other publications, reviewing ethics procedures, searching the scientific literature, virtually the whole range of scientific activities. There are interesting presentations on science, and diving science, and sometimes the odd field-trip (depending on what research projects are underway each year).
Deadline is January 15 so please pass this on to anyone interested in learning more about research, for example anyone in a graduate degree program who thinks they might want to take a Masters Degree one day, or someone in the first year of a Masters Degree who thinks they might want to take a PhD one day.
Living and travel expenses are covered by DAN and interns will enjoy working on a range of tasks within a dynamic, enthusiastic team of diving researchers. Full details are available here: Scuba Diving Research Summer Internships — DAN | Divers Alert Network
