Damn Kids

Had my teenage nephew visit me in Florida this week. He was certified for scuba, has less than 10-15 scuba dives and never freedove. Took him out the first day, let him borrow a cheap pair of soft plastic freedive fins and we jumped in 60 feet and later 85 feet. Within a few dives he was dropping to 45-50 while using a dolphin kick.

Next day, gave him about 10 minutes of directions on freediving and a better pair of fiberglass fins and soon he was comming up with handfuls of sand from 71 feet! He wanted me to let him take the speargun down, but I drew the line at that.no

Some days I can just barely make 70 feet! Seems I am a much better coach than freediver!

71 feet in only 2 days...that's terrific! He is doing hands free equalization pretty effortlessly judging from the speed of his decent. Alot of people need to descend slowly for hands free while freediving.

When the kid becomes an instructor, I'm taking lessons from HIM! Better yet, I won't wait for that - what's he doing next weekend?? :<)
