Hi Everyone,

I'd like some feedback ...pros and cons... of anyone using the Dacor Darwin. I'm a new diver getting my first set of gear together and the Darwin seems to fit both my budget and diving style which is strictly recreational and likely to remain so.

Thanks,
Cindy

I just purchased the Dacor Darwin online for $299 I'm having difficulty navigating the set functions other than that I havent had a chance to dive with it. The research I did on it points to it being a good value.

Me and my wife have the Darwin and the Mares M1 (same thing) and once you get used to the navigation and the buttons have been broken in, it is indeed a good computer for the money.;)

I have the Mares MC1, which is the same computer as the Darwin. For recreational diving and price, it's a great computer. It is very conservative in dive profiles and has a good set of features. Has setting for fresh or salt water, altitude diving, bottom timer and PPO settings.

The two button systen takes a little work to get used to but with practice, you get used to it. The only thing that I was concerned with is the battery compartment. While totally separated from the computer itself, you must be very careful with the O-ring. Making sure that it's in good shape and sealed correctly. Batteries do not like salt water.

The good part of this is that you can change you batteries any time that you need to (no sending the computer away for battery changes :) )

It also received some very good reviews from several diving rags. All and all a good recreational computer for the price. Good luck with your choice. There are a lot of good computers out there. Take your time and choose what works best for you.

I can't tell you how funny I find it that a company decided to call their computer the "Darwin"..

Wonder if it'll win any awards

For the same price you may also want to look at the Suunto Vyper and Uwatec Pro Plus, also very good computers :)

Scuba_Vixen once bubbled...

Yes...who is the marketing genius at Dacor who picked that for a name? They need to get out more.

Hi,

I saw your message on the Scuba Board regarding a Dacor Diving Computer.

I recently bought a used Dacor Diving Computer that did not come with a manual and I am having a hard time trying to figure out how to work it. Do you possibly have a copy of a manual for that computer that you could provide to me? In the alternative, could you give me a brief summary of how the control buttons work to operate it? Thank you.
