I never use Mares BC, but I'm using Dacor Rig BC right now. There are 2 things which makes me unhappy about it:
1. The construction of the wing. I think they should use thicker denier, because mine got teared when the boat crew pulled the wing instead of the harness. Not a fatal tear though, because the bladder is still intact. I also have some tear at the bottom of the wing, no clue why. One of my friend also have some tear at the bottom of the wing.

2. The wing is too big for single tank. But this can be solved by tying the wing around your tank.

... What do you expect but praise.

Mares And Dacor are now owned by the same holding company, you will see a lot of Mares patents on Dacor kit, Air trim, fins etc.

The Mares volo and the new volo power fins (Mrs Mares has just got her's, Not that i'am jealous or anything) are very good so are the quatrros, but these are for strong legs!!!!!!

Their Vector BC is one of the biggest selling in the world

Their regs tend not to be as popular in the States as they are in Europe

But I love the Proton XL and Proton Ice, I've divied with Apek and scubapro regs and i'll be damed if I can find a difference.

As for expense, for some reason the proton ice is $500 in the states, you can get it in europe for £248, trust me for a reg this is expensive in the states.

Bottem line, For recreational diving there is very little to chose between all the manufactures.
