I'm sure this has been done in various flavours but need to make a decision on this and would like your help...

Money not a limiting factor, need a new 'puter....

Tempted by the tech end of the market (just appeals) and was even considering an x1 but it is total overkill (still tempted though!) Currently AOW returning after 10 years being dry, am going to do RD ove next month or so and then onto the road to DM, will probably go nitrox but at this point can't see me getting into tech diving but who knows! Like AI, whether or not it is useful, it makes me feel more comfortable. Would love to wait for Atomic's machine to be launched but as there isn't any sign of it in the near future will have to give it a miss.

So that really brings me back to the 2 Suuntos, I used both a cobra and a stinger when I was divin last. I like the size and lack of radio comms with the cobra but like the watchiness of the D9, also means it stays on my person all the time on holidays an so constantly updates my ndls even if off doing something else for an afternoon etc...

Sooo.... Pros cons, suggestions, alternatives ???

Cheers Guys & Gals

Paul

I wouldn't get either...Sunntos are 'uber' conservative...total killjoys! YUCK !

I'd avoid D9 for another reason, those tiny watch sized computers look cool/James Bond-ish on land, but are hard to read underwater IMHO.

I'm running Oceanic Datamax Pro Plus II's and Cochran GEMINI's...the Oceanics are very easy to use and great recreational computers, the Cochrans are rather more 'techie' (and way more expensive) but they are the only air-intergrated tech computer out there, and I like them and have been using them for years.

I owned a Cobra until it crapped out on me after 5 years. Went to a Cobra 3 and love it. The interface is enough the same as the cobra that I didn't have to relearn, with enhancements that make it much easier to use than the cobra. As far as conservative, that's true, but there are adjustments you can make to make it less conservative.

Luckily for the rest of the diving community, this is your views only. Not every diver out there is pushing the limits. Most of the community enjoy diving within safe parameters. The D9 size is the same as all the other mainstream DC’s like mares, oceanic, tusa too name a few.

I can also recommend a Helo2, it is larger (so everyone can read them), the algorithm can be changed to be more aggressive (same as VRx), supports trimix, and the battery is user replaceable.

Thanks for all mthe replies

I have made my decision.... I have gone for the Uemis! It ticks all the boxes and a few more. Will post a report on my first couple of dives with it when it lands.

This does beg a question though. As this is state of the art kit and is AI, should I bother with a console? My training says I should but logic would suggest that I've just got rid of a hose and do I really want 2 potential HP failure points!!

I always have a SPG as backup when diving with AI computers. I prefer wrist mounted.

Yeah, I dive a Vytec DS and have not enjoyed a single one of the ~400 dives I've used it on.

:shocked2:

When with my Viper3 I had a back up but now with the Luna I don't bother.
If something was to go wrong then I have a buddy close by and we would call the dive and make a controlled accent.
