I just bought a D300S camera body and housing back-plate as a back-up for my housed D300. The Ikelite D300 housing had a great new feature (compared with their older Nikon housings), you can replace the camera battery without removing the camera from the housing back-plate mounting bracket. The newer D300s back-plate goes back to the old continuous mounting bracket, without the cut-out for the battery. Were the D300S flash electronics SO much bigger that Ikelite had to take this step backward in design? I am posting this, in hopes that future housings will once again have the battery cut-out in the mounting plate.

We do try to incorporate this feature whenever possible. It is actually the placement of controls on the back of the D300s which prevents the electronics from being housed entirely in the back. We were required to move circuitry into the camera tray which prevented us from cutting it out for the battery.
