I purchased a D300 with a nikkor 14-24, nikkor 17-55 and nikkor 105 macro lens.
Im looking to get a housing for this puppy but cant find any that port the 14-24 (yes 14-24 NOT the old 12-24) or can port the "all around" 17-55. The 105 macro is easy.

Anyone know if there are ports out there for these 2 lenses???

FYI if you have not seen this 14-24 yet it is pure joy for the wide lover.

Thanks in advance!

I know for that the you can use the 17-55 with the Subal. I use (I have the D200 Housing but the ports are interchangeable) the standard dome and a port extension ring. I am using the ring that allows me to use the 105VR with standard 60mm Macro port. Ryan can tell you what the exact extension length is required.

For the 14-24 you will need to contact Ryan or call Aquatica directly.

I was looking at Ikelite housings today for my D300 (the only housing I think I'd be willing to spend $$ on, as the others are just too expensive for the use they'd get), and was disappointed to see there was no port for the 17-55, a lens I have my eye on. It really doesn't look much bigger than the 18-70 I have, which they do make a port for.

What is a good all around lens for underwater use. I realize this all depends on what kinds of photos I would be taking, though I'd like something that allows a mix of somewhat wide shots as well as closeups of the critters.

I was testing out the Sea&Sea D3 housing last week with the 14-24mm and found the port and dome combination I was using still had softness around the corners (8" optical glass port with extension). I am going to be going with the 9.25" megadome with the Aquatica housing, which should improve the corner sharpness. I won't have it for another week or so, but I should be able to test it out then.

Be aware that not many housings can take the 14-24. It's very thick.

I have a D300. I'm using an 8" dome port with my 18-55mm Nikkor lens. Part of the decision on this lens was the availability of a port for it. I was already committed to Ikelite after purchasing an Ikelite housing and a DS125 substrobe to use with my Canon A630 when I first got involved with u/w photography last year. Of course I'm using the strobe with my Nikon also and now I have TTL :)

I agree about the "expensive" part. The other housings are just to far out of my price range for now :shakehead:

The next lens that I'm going to purchase is the Nikkor 60mm. This is the recommendation of people that I've talked to who have been doing this a long time. It's wide enough for fish shots, but you can also do 1:1 macro with it. Maybe some people who have actual experience with this lens will comment also?

After that a second strobe, then another lens (I'm thinking about the 10.5mm fish eye). It's a slippery slope. I've already spent over $5K on camera equipment in the last year ;)

Using 17-55 & 105VR with my Nexus D70. Same ports work with the D300 housing. Add a diopter for edge sharpness when needed. Using custom 12-24 port with 17-55 lens & standard flat port for 105.

Usually when folks say 1:1 they mean relative to 35 mm film. With the 60 mm and the
D300's crop sensor, you get 1:1 relative to the crop sensor, which would be about
1.5:1 (or is it 1:1.5?, anyway, bigger than life size ON 35 mm). That is, IF the closest
focus point isn't inside the port, and IF the port isn't shadowing the subject. The 105
will get the same shot, from farther away (not necessarily a good thing in Monterey vis,
maybe really good in the tropics).

Thanks! That is something to consider... My normal diving is here in Japan where vis is not always particularly good, especially in the summer (winter is better). Almost half the dives I did in the last 12 months though were in tropical waters (2 dive trips to the Philippines and 1 to Guam). Maybe a 60mm next, and then a 105mm, and then a 10.5mm fisheye.... Yes, definitely a "slippery slope" ;)

Any suggestions on ports? I'm using an Ikelite Housing with an 8" dome port now. I've noticed that I'm not getting good corner sharpness when I'm shooting wide.
