cylinder boot question

A fellow diver in one of the clubs I am in asked me what the nub circled in red is on my cylinder boot:

I told him I was not 100% sure but thought it was to hold the rod of a J-valve.

Is that correct or is it for something else?

Yeah dead right, a souvenir from the past. :wink:
 
Some organizations still use J-Valves. OSHA allows it as a redundant air source.

There are modern J-Valves, you can even get a DIN one.

No kidding ? :eek: Here in France, those valves have been outdated for 2 decades at least and I have seen them only on vintage rigs. Would you care to be more specific, please ? I'd love to learn about that. Thank you. :)
 
Thanks again. Read it and I'm still puzzled : my experience with those valves was bad, never worked properly, still in professional context, I'm supposed equipment is better maintained.
