I am in the market for a custom dry suit (6'5" and 185lbs) and I am curious what problems people have (or not had) with ordering a custom dry suit and having it properly fit. How does one select a LDS who will be right on with the measurements the first time?

The owner of the LDS did my measurments and guaranteed the fit would be right or he would make it right.

When I received my custom Whites Aqua Pro the fit was perfect.

Just be sure the guy doing the measuring knows what he is doing and will guarantee it.

There is no way to prevent the factory guy from reading the numbers wrong though. Whites uses a computer to cut the fabric which I think really helped. That might be a consideration.

Ditto. Perfect fits with both my custom White's and custom Diving Concepts suits (several years apart).

Oooh... just remembered. There was an issue with my custom drysuit undie sleeves - way too long. White's fixed em no questions asked.

I ordered two Signature Production DUI suits back in August, one for myself and one for my SO. It took about a month a half for them to get the final product back to us. Except for the sleeve length, my SO's suit fit her pretty much perfectly out of the box.

Unforutunately, I had more than a few problems with my suit. The main on ebeing that I had to struggle to get it on and off, since it was a few inches too short. Called up DUI, gave them some modified measurements, and they had us ship the suits back to them on their dime. They said they would fabricate a completely new suit for me.

Three weeks later, second time around, my SOs suit is now perfect since they trimmed the sleeves. My suit was much easier to don and doff, but it was really baggy up top. Called them up again, and they apologized for the fit, and said they would try to make it right the third time around.

Again, they paid for shipping back to them and did not charge us for any alterterations or rebuilding of the suit. Hopefully, the third time is the charm. So, I can honestly say that when you pay for a Signature Production suit, DUI will do whatever it takes to get it right.

Sorry it was a little lengthy, but I hope you found some answers you were looking for.

Start by insisting that your LDS stand behind the fit of the suit. Policies likely vary depending on manufacturer, meaning that the cost of further altering a custom suit may be on the dealer and not manufacturer. As you will be paying extra for a custom cut you should be entitled to proper fit without extra cost. Andy's, for one, sends a cheap plastic shell assembled to your measurements for fitting prior to making the actual suit.

I personally had no problem with my DUI custom suit, but I know a number of people who've got them back with bad fit.

Everyone of the problems I know iof has been resolved by DUI. It's just been a matter of time.

My custom DUI suit has been ordered and is being made now (nice Christmas present from the better half). The LDS I ordered it from guaranteed the sizing or they would replace it. I had originally hoped to fit a stock size, which I came close to. I was going to have some changes made, however, as I have much smaller feet than the stock size socks that come with the suit. When my LDS was ordering the stock suit over the phone (with changes), DUI pointed out that a custom suit would only be a few dollars more. I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of my custom cut CLx450.

I also got a Whites aqua pro custom fit suit. They did every little thing i asked with no mess ups at all. It fit like a dream, oh it was some beautiful. Then, I quit smoking. and now i am going to rent for a while, I have gained close to 60 pounds in spite of doing everything i can to avoid it.
Point of story awsome suit and company, great fit, good LDS (they fit me and ordered it) i even got to go pick it up from the plant which took like three days off the delivery time. But maybe i shoulda got 2, or quit smoking first.

I hear what you're saying about suit fit! The had the similar situation with my first dry suit. I thought it might bare mentioning...Have you heard of Isagenix? My wife has had great results with their nutritional products. I will be next to try their program.
Seems quite effortless way to reducing weight (fast and healthy), and improving energy and wellbeing. The main focus of the company is to cleanse our system's of toxins while replenishing 70+ ionic minerals, vitamens, amino acids which helps to build muscle. Basically can't go wrong with this product line. I joined their memebership so I could get the wholesale prices. Feel free to check out the website they set up for me (another benefit of joining the membership) www.diveintohealth.isagenix.com

BTW: Congrats on kicking the habit....sounds like you're healthier already!

You were able to get the undergarments custom as well? I have been wondering which manufacturers make custom undergarments.
