Going to Curacoa in a few weeks, any suggestions on best dive and good snorkle sites too? How about top side activities and dining?

Thanks for the input divers!

Slamdog =-)

Part of the "CAB" island chain consisting of Curacoa, Abuba and Boneair.

The following is a trip report from earlier this year, When we go back we will stay with Habitat Curacao which is on the other side of the island and reportedly has really good shore diving because of smoother seas.
We taxi down the runway, and all we see are cactus and scrub. We really didn’t know the place is a desert! Out the airplane door we are greeted by a 20 knot sea breeze that we will come to love in a few days(nice and cool and no bugs none).
A short taxi ride and we are at Lions Dive Inn, very nice place really lush and tropical and the rooms were just right for us, nothing fancy but clean and comfortable and one heck of a view. (room #2309) The balcony overlooks the lagoon and the Caribbean Sea. Not bad at all! The staff could have been a little more helpful, but we were tired after traveling all day so we call it even and unpack. Wow what a view!
The Dive shop is run by the charming and very capable Ans (pronounced Anz) she really took care of us and she and Robert and Robbie (aka Juan and Paco) made our dive trips even more enjoyable. Thanks guys! All the boat dives were at least an hour long, which made up for the shore dives which were available but due to some problem with the Seaquarium manager were just to much hassle (along with the rough surf) besides after two one hour boat dives we were pretty tired.
We did some really good dives and the corals were healthy and the small fish and critters were plentiful. No large fish though, which I found rather odd. Overall I thought the diving was excellent.
Just a little west of the resort is Kon Tiki beach, very clean and safe ( we walked to a restaurant by the same name every evening without any fear or incident.
T he Kon Tiki is highly recommend and the cabins are very romantic (it was our anniversary) be sure and make reservations as they are pretty popular also economical ( we ate and had a couple Polar or Brights for about $20-25. Lunch is even less.
The locals are some of the friendliest people we’ve met any where in the Caribbean. Always willing to help with directions or advice like take the bus for a buck each or a taxi for twenty. That’s advice you can use.
Overall, a really nice comfortable laid back dive vacation that I would recommend to anyone.

Curacao is unique in that there is a ledge that runs at about 15fsw just about everywhere, the reef is very active at this level and snokeling/skin diving is very easy to do there. The dives are all pretty great as well and the fact that this ledge exists makes your safety stop simply a continuence of the dive.

Have a great time.

Kevin you hot stud you...

You didn't bother to mention that because this ledge exists the dives usually end up being very long 1+hours due to the fact that the diving is so good at that level.

Many of the divers on our last trip there could stay down for 90 min. if you let them...

While I love to sunbathe it did become something of a problem for other divers who wanted to hurry things along a bit.

Additionally there are some great beaches for you to offgas on. I

have attached a photo of the girls of our last trip sunbathing on one of them. There is a great little fort like thing you can climb to just above this beach if you want or you can hang out at the bar, or play beach volleyball or...

Have a blast

One thing I forgot to mention that may interest you. It takes about 3 hours to complete any meal you want to eat on Curacao. I think they subscribe to the why rush attitude... Even when we tried to speed things up it still took about 2 hours... The food was great but wow.. the amount of time...

There was a beach restaruant just up from the Lions dive hotel that had the most marvelous desert. I will look through my log book and see if I can find reference to it and I will let you know if I do.

Julie,
Was it the restaurant at Toucan Divers? It was a great romantic spot.

Also for the original poster check out www.shorediving.com and make your way to Curacao. I was there for two weeks in August/September.
