Hey Scuba Boarders,

I'll be vacationing in Curacao from Aug 2 to Aug 10. We're staying at the Hilton Curacao and so will most likely be booking with Ocean Encounters there. I was wondering if someone could comment on Curacao's best dive spots :

From reading around, these always get mentioned :

Watamula
Mushroom Forest
Playa Kalki
Porto Marie
Superior Producer
Tugboat

And I hear I must eat at Sunshine's Sol Food, which I plan to do.

My usual comment is that we think the shore diving is very easy even if it a few miles between dive sites. We have more experience with west end dives but I'm sure the east end locals from in town will post their favorites. You can get air at Habitat, Porto Marie, Cas Abou, SunsetWaters, Lagun and in Westpunt. The price per tank ranges from 6 to 10 USD. If you decide not to rent a car, the Dive Bus will pick you up for shore dives on both ends of the island. Most of the dives can be done from shore but Watamula, Redhio and Mushroom Forest (again west) are boat dives. Playa Kalki is also know as Alice In Wonderland. I'll see you next weekend. If you're in Westpunt during the week, give a holler at the gate to say hello. We keep it closed to keep the goats out and dogs in. Curacao has great diving!

On the East side don't forget to dive at the Car Pile (house reef of the Dive Bus), also called Marie Pampun beach. Also very nice is the divesite behind the waterplant (Aqualectra) going left as well as right. You can find a lot of the sites (all reachable from shore) on my website (Welcome to the Curacao Diving Paradise - Curacao Diving Paradise) under Dive Sites. They are arranged from East to West. There are also lots of pictures to show you what to expect under water. Have fun next week.

Hey Neil,
We'll be there with another couple 8/2-8/9, maybe we'll run into you :D

We're staying at the All West Apartments and diving with OEW-we are mostly shore diving, but will be on the boats Tues & Thurs in order to dive Watamula and Mushroom Forest.

I'd add Varsenbaai to the list. Go east to the pontoon boat wreck, and then look for the seahorses at the base of the mooring ball on your way back. Then swim in towards shore and see the turtles feeding in 6' of water. And did I mention the 100 squid just off the dock. btw, all on one dive. Ask the onsite operator for details.

We really liked Habitat's reef also. Saw big Morays, a couple Barracuda and the resident Octo. My friend lives/guides there. Snake Bay is on her short list.
