My girlfriend and I due to spend 8 days on Cayo Largo, unfortunately due to a medical condition getting her signed off is going to be a problem.

The only dive operator on the island runs trips for a full day and I cant leave her on her own all day.

With a view to changing hotels what are the dive sights like on the south side of the island (Caribbean side) with a decent operator that runs morning or afternoon trips.

Thank you

Hi MUFC,

Cayo Largo dive center does make 2 or 3 outings a day !!

First ( early ) dive: Advance divers only. 30 meters

2nd dive, around 13h00: Open water divers, 20 meters

3rd dive, beginners dive, 10 meters. This dive is very often cancelled for lack of divers.

If you like to only do the Advance dive, the bus will bring you back at your resort around 12h00 !!!

Where did you get your info !!!

You may try their email to get some info but it does not work everytime !!!

Hello Mr. MUFC

Unfortunately it is not possible to dive only a half day. The dive boats are the whole day on the sea. You can dive one day and the other day you make a break. This is the only possibility for diving on Cayo Largo.

Best regards

Silvia Wagner

I have sent an email detailing staggered times from what I believe to be their website and have yet to receive a reply.

We stayed in Holguin in early 2007 ( I know Cayo is not anywhere near there), but the operators there only ran 2 tank dives in the morning, stating that the winds normally picked up and made it difficult to run in the afternoon, and they weren't lying...

For a charter to stay out all day long is odd, and not economically wise. However, as you'll find, getting reliable information about or from Cuba is a challenge all by itself.

You will love it there though - the people are some of the friendliest and honest people you'll ever meet. Enjoy your trip!

Hey MUFC
I was in Cayo LArgo two years ago. They have two boats and run two dives a day as far as could tell. Mostly only one boat went out and it wasn't over crowded. That email you got saying only one dive a day was from Germany, judging by the email address.
No need to arrange your dives before you go. Especially from a european company. The bus from the dive centre will come by your hotel in the morning and take you to the dive centre, and bring you back of course.
I thought the diving was good. We saw a whale shark, mantas and lots of other critters.
They handled the dives as drift dives. The boat did not moor. The DM would shoot a bag for the safety stop and when we surfaced the boat would be near by to pick us up.
hope you have a great trip
